A letter to Rebecca and Andrew…
Andrew, when I first saw you at Jenna's back in 2014, I knew there was something special about you. Little did I know what the world had in store for us. Although 2014 may not have been our year, I could not imagine the last six and a half years without you. From reconnecting as just friends—according to you—to dating long distance, living through the pandemic, and moving in together, we have had our fair share of ups and downs. But no matter the situation, we always come back together stronger than before.
I met Becc in high school, and I have the honour of watching her grow into the beautiful and intelligent woman she is today. Becc, you are such a light on the dark days. You accomplish everything you set your mind to, and you inspire me every single day. Andrew, I'm so happy knowing my best friend has found the truest kind of love. Today is the start of your greatest adventure yet, and I couldn't be happier for you both.
Andrew and I—we were kind of destined to be best friends. As we grew older in school, we got really close—doing lots of projects together, playing Call of Duty, staying up all night just for the map hack not to load. Andrew, I love you so much. You are my best friend. I look up to you. You're a hard worker. When you really want something, you get it done. That's a quality that I look for in myself, and I try to. And you set a good example for me, and I think for a lot of people in the room too. I knew he was in love with Becca even before they started dating, because we went on a big trip to Montreal. Andrew made sure every single day to call Rebecca and talk to her, and obviously, she is the girl for him. I wish you both a lifetime of happiness, fun, joy, and adventures. I hope you guys have the best life together.
There comes a time in every man's life when they meet their one true love. That special someone that they want to spend the rest of their life with. The one that they know and love forever. And as soon as they meet, they just know. For Andrew, that happened thirteen years ago when he met me in grade nine geography class. One thing I have learned over these last thirteen years is that Andrew is undoubtedly one of my best friends. He's been that one constant in my life, the friend I could always turn to for anything. The bond we have is like no other. He's always been there to lend an ear, to be the voice of reason when I'm not thinking straight, and the motivator I need. There's no one I'd rather see my best friend marry than you, Becca. Thank you for everything you do for him. Both Becca and Andrew have been instrumental in my own life. They've been two of the people I know I can always count on and will always have my back. Thank you, guys, for everything. I wish you the happiest and healthiest of marriages. And Becca, just know—Valentine's Day 2025 is mine.
I'd like to welcome you to this beautiful venue to be witnesses to the exact moment in time and space when two hearts begin to beat as one. For them, out of the routine of ordinary life, the extraordinary has happened. They met each other, fell in love, and are finalizing with their wedding today. Today is a celebration—a celebration of love, of commitment, of friendship, of family, and of two people who are in it. Without a doubt, there are countless others whose love is wrapping itself around you as you take this step together this afternoon. Love knows no borders. Love knows no boundaries. Love never fails.
I could stand here all day and talk about how happy it makes me when I wake up to fresh banana pancakes in the morning, or how much your support has changed my life. But my love for you does not rest solely on the things that you do for me. I love you for who you are—for your adventurous spirit, your dedication to everything that you do, and your silly voice impressions. I love the grace, kindness, and compassion that you show to every single person that you meet. More than anything, I love you for your heart, and I feel honoured to have the privilege of loving it for the rest of my days. I promise to embrace your interests and passions, even if that means camping through tornado warnings or spending my morning hitting sixteen strokes on a par of four. I promise to hold your hand on your hardest days and through your greatest adventures. I promise to make you feel seen, to make you feel heard, to make you feel understood, and to make sure you know you are loved every day. You are not just my partner, best friend, roommate, dog co-parent, or adventure buddy. You are my sounding board, my safe space, and my home. Thank you for loving me the way you do. I love you, and I cannot wait to see what adventures this life has in store for us.
Becca, I can think of countless reasons why I'm standing here today and sharing this special moment with you. It could be your gorgeous green eyes and your beautiful hair, or it could be the fact that your nursing of my cuts and wounds from work has prevented me from getting a fatal infection. It could be a combination of many reasons. What I do know is that there are more reasons than there are castles in Scotland, and that there are almost as many reasons as the number of people's lives you have had a major positive impact on in your recent line of work. When you're having a bad day and you feel the need to vent, I'll be an ear for you. I promise to kiss you good morning and kiss you good night every day for the rest of our lives. When you're chasing your goals and ambitions, I'll gladly be by your side, supporting you and cheering you on. Whenever you get sick, I promise to take care of you until it passes. I promise to always work on us and myself so that our relationship continues to grow and transform into better versions. My only wish from you is that you give me the chance to fulfill these vows every day for the rest of our lives. Becca, my love for you will continue to grow stronger every day.
Let this ring be a symbol of my promises to you. I am honoured to call you my husband.
I give you this ring as a symbol of my love and faithfulness. As I place it on your finger, I commit my heart and soul to you.
It is an honour to present to you, for the first time, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew and Becca Klunder!
Andrew, you're one of the kindest and most generous people I know, and you have the most purest soul. I might be the older sister, but I can honestly say that I've leaned on you for support during hard times, and you've always been there for me. I've watched you grow up and become a man that would make an amazing husband one day—and today's the day. To my new sister, Becca, you've been there for me on countless occasions when I've needed help. I'm so glad my little brother found you and that you appreciate how loving and sweet he is.
Andrew, I know I'm your mom, but you sure look handsome tonight. And I'm so proud of the man that you've become. You're determined, you're hardworking, you're genuine, and you're patient. I cherish all the memories—from kissing your boo-boos better (and God knows there were a lot of them) to finally helping you set up your engagement proposal. No matter how old you get, you will always be my baby, and I'll always love you.
Calling his sister Gaga, playing dinky cars on the floor, getting homework done was always a chore. Girl trouble and a wrecked Jeep in the ditch. A new start in London—apprenticeship he would pitch. Working together in business like father, like son. Determination and hard work—even getting nailed with a nail gun. Andrew's all grown up—look at him now. A house, a business with Becca, a vow. We're so proud of you, Andrew—the man you have become. May God bless your marriage and your future to come.
Since the day Rebecca was born, she has been an independent, focused, mature, and self-driven person. She excelled at everything she did. As mayor of Munchkin City, in the county, in the land of Hale, I welcome you most regally—but got to verify it legally to see if he is morally, ethically, spiritually, positively, absolutely, undeniably the most befitting and worthiest suitor to wed our cherished daughter and join our clan. May I present you the key to the city—and also a key to my daughter's heart. I'd like everyone to raise a glass and give a rousing cheer to our newlyweds: Andrew and Rebecca—to love, life, and happiness!
