A letter to Aleks and Michael…

Michael, happy wedding day. I love you. When I met you, you were the goofy, kind of nerdy guy in my Econ 101 class who would more often than not walk with me to the bus stop. It took you a while, but you managed to break through the hard exterior that I put up and showed me why you were someone that I should hold close.

My sister is the kindest, most compassionate, loving, and honest person I know. She has an incredible ability to make me laugh when nobody else can, and more importantly, she inspires me to be the best version of myself—and not through words, but by leading by example. Despite all the chaos I brought as her little sister, I am happy to stand here today and say that she has since become my best friend. She is the keeper of my secrets and my part-time therapist. Beyond what she means to me, she deserves someone as truly special as she is—and then Michael came along. I've never seen her happier. Over the years, I've come to see that Michael is just as kind, compassionate, and loving as my sister. Watching your relationship grow has been a joy, and it warms my heart to see my sister so happy. I love you both. Cheers.

Michael, it's hard to believe you're a married man. Feels like yesterday you were that little boy who followed me everywhere. We are so proud of the man you have become. Aleks, we couldn't ask for a better daughter-in-law. We welcome you to our family with open arms. Looking forward to sharing many happy times together, and may God bless you with a lifetime of happiness, good health, laughter, and love.

On behalf of Aleks and Michael, I would like to welcome you. We are gathered here today to celebrate one of life's greatest moments—to give recognition to the worth and beauty of love.

Falling in love with you wasn't a grand moment or a sudden realization. I can't pinpoint exactly when it happened because I feel like it's been happening gradually since we met. From the late night chats and cooking at your student house, to our downtown excursions that definitely weren't dates in disguise, to every moment since we started dating—you celebrated my successes with me, and you picked me back up when I wanted to throw my hands up and call it quits, always reminding me what I was capable of. So here are my promises to you: I promise to cherish not just the big milestones like today, but also the small, ordinary moments that will make up the rest of our lives. I promise to keep looking for new ways to love you, because loving you has been the greatest privilege of my life. I know choosing to marry my best friend will be the best decision I've ever made. The love, respect, and admiration I feel for you has deepened over the years, and I'm certain it'll continue to grow as we build a beautiful life together. So today, and every day from here on out, I choose you—my best friend, my partner, my love, and now, my husband.

If only innocent little high school Michael could see us now. Imagine how shocked that goofball would be—that mysterious girl with icy blue eyes from economics class decided to marry him. I think he's a pretty lucky guy. I just want to thank you for everything that you've done and everything that you've been in my life for the past few years. Thank you for always being the person I can turn to when I need advice or just need a shoulder to lean on. Thank you for always believing in me and inspiring me to be the best version of myself. And thank you for accepting and loving me for exactly who I am. I'm sure it won't always be easy, but through it all, I promise to be honest with you and forever be the person you can unequivocally trust. I promise to respect you and support you in everything that you do and in all ways that I can, and I promise to love you—all that you are—with the same patience and understanding as you've loved me. From walking you to the bus stop to soon walking you down the aisle, it's been a wild ride. I'm so proud to soon call you my wife. I love you, and I can't wait to see where we go from here.

Michael, with this ring, I join my life with yours. I choose you to be my love, my partner, and my best friend for the rest of our lives.

Aleks, with this ring, I join my life with yours. I choose you to be my love, my partner, and my best friend for the rest of our lives.

I now pronounce that you are husband and wife!

They know where I'm coming from with this. These are a few words that they might have heard me say, and they can use this in their future: "Get it while the getting is good," "Free is the right price," and [Polish].

Aleks has become a wise, thoughtful person with intelligence, wit, and wisdom that amazes us almost daily. When Aleks first introduced us to Michael, we could see right away how special they were together. Michael and Ola, marriage is a beautiful journey where you support each other through all the highs and the lows, the achievements and the setbacks, the joys and the sorrows. It is written, "When children find true love, parents find true joy." So here's to your joy and ours. Sto lat!

It's hard to express the mixture of joy, pride, and gratitude that I feel for having someone like Michael as a sibling and as a friend that I've known as long as I can remember. There is so much joy in knowing that he has someone as generous, thoughtful, and sweet as Aleks to spend his life with—someone who makes homemade focaccia on a random Tuesday and doesn't let someone with a quiet voice get lost in a big conversation. Michael and Aleks make a formidable team and are true partners in everything. I love you both. Congratulations!
